Fall Campout 2008

The camping trip to Lake Livingston State Park went off with out a hitch! Thanks so much if you came for the whole trip or just for part of it. I think everyone really enjoyed themselves. The weather was great, and the fellowship was even better. Be looking for details to come about a Spring 09 camping trip in the near future. We really want to do it again and maybe more of you can make plans to join us!

Combined class this Sunday

Well, we were wondering what we were going to do with Jeremy being out of town and no other teacher lined up. But, in the words of Ray Romano, sometimes “material presents itself.”

This Sunday morning, Southeast is asking for all classes to be combined in room 304 during their normal time for a presentation from a representative from the Listening Lab.

(mandatory promotional material coming…)

The listening lab is a nationally resptected program that not only will help us with our relationship skills, but also allows us to reach those who may have wondered away from their faith.

For more information or to register online for the Nov. 4-8 trainings, go to www.secoc.org and click on the event registration tab. Sign up sheets will also be available in the Welcome Center.

So go to room 304 this Sunday morning for combined class and Jeremy will pick back up next Sunday, November 9.

Trunk of Treat – Sunday, October 26

We have mentioned this in class, but I have some more details for this Sunday evening and the trunk or treat:

The goal for Southeast this year is 100 cars in the parking lot participating. This has turned into a huge community event and they enough representation to handle all of the kids that will be coming by that evening. So, anyone who is involved with our class or part of our group is encouraged to have a car there with decorations and candy. Anyone can do it, but they especially need the folks out there who do not have kids and who won’t have other responsibilities. Care can begin arriving at about 6:00 and the line of kids will start about 6:30.

This will take the place of Lifegroup Sunday night, so we hope all of you can attend. If you have any questions about the event, you can email Karis at kmcquinn@secoc.org or Janel at jhopper@secoc.org.

See you there!

Allison is providing snacks to eat for the evening so no one needs to feel obliged to bring anything at all.
In case you have not been there before, our address is 2402 Leading Edge, 77546. We live in Heritage Park about a mile from the church building.

If you need any other information, email Allison at allisonkirksey@yahoo.com or call at 281-382-5424.

Notes from the week

Softball – as you all know, the game was canceled this past Monday night. Not because of the weather, but apparently none of the other teams wanted to face us, and they all ran out of town scared. Not sure yet how this will affect future games, but we will pass the information on Sunday and via this intercyberwebsite.

Sr. Minister search – As was announced last Sunday, Jason Broussard is heading up the search committee for a new Sr. Minister at Southeast. I know we all certainly are praying for him and this process, and he has said he is always open to talk or to ideas that any of us may have. Any questions you have about this can be directed to him or to Dave Gibson, Lanny Partain or Bob Gardner. And don’t forget about the website (www.southeastminister.com). If you ever think anyone may be interested in the job or hear of a candidate, pass it on to them. You will be amazed where can run into people these days…

Fantasy Football – If you are interested in playing, I believe there are between four and six spots left. Talk to Tim Miller soon if you want in. The draft is Sunday night, August 17 at Jason and Cristen’s house.

Sunday morning class – This week will be our last interview before Jared spends a couple of weeks wrapping things up for us. August 31 is a combined service for all families, so there will be no class that day. Again, be thinking about what you would like class to look like next. There has been a rumbling of interest in a podcast, so we may pursue that, but details are still not finalized.

Communion leaders meeting – Don’t forget about this meeting August 24 at church if you would like to take part in this ministry opportunity

Recap of Sunday announcements

Here are the highlights from announcements yesterday in class:

Softball game is TONIGHT at Big League Dreams at 9:00. We have no more 10:00 games scheduled so the rest are pretty reasonable, including a double header on August 18.

Two showers upcoming, a baby shower for Amber Kornegeay this Sunday, August 3 at 2:30, and a bridal shower for Kelly Gibson on Sunday, August 17 at 2:30 PM. (Amber is registered at Babies R Us and Target)

For anyone interested in being part of the communion worship team, there is an information meeting at the church Sunday, August 24 at about 2:00. If you would like to volunteer to lead this time in the near future, please attend.

Also, something I overlooked, Wednesday, August 27 is our week to host the 6:00 Soul Survivor dinner at the building. More details will be available as we get closer.

Tomorrow – look for a recap of softball game number four…

Flip(pin) That House

Details are in for those of you helping the Flippins move tomorrow morning.

We will all meet at Josh and Marla’s house on Grey Mist Dr. tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM. Josh and Marla will lead us over to their old house in League City at that time – breakfast will be provided there. It will all be packed and ready to go in a large moving van when we arrive, so everything should go in one trip. The plan is to be done by noon and lunch will also be provided.

We know there are some of you who have to leave early, but come and stay as long as you can. Any help you can offer will be much appreciated.
