Church canceled on Sunday

In case you haven’t heard already, church, classes and life groups are all canceled on Sunday, Sept. 14, because of the 77546 evacuation.

I will echo what Jared said – please be safe and take care of yourselves. After this is over, if anyone has a need for anything and you have access to a computer, please leave a comment here and we will do all we can to help.

Baby Kate

Josh and Marla Morris have sent the word out that Kate was born this morning and is beautiful and healthy. She was 6 pounds 10 oz, and is 18 and 1/2 inches long.

The Morris’s are at St. Joseph’s Christus St. John’s hospital and are all doing well. Right now they have requested that just family be there, but check back here frequently because they have said that they would love for friends to come see them in the next couple of days.

Josh says she is beautiful and he thinks she looks just like Marla.

Congratulation to Josh, Marla and Kate!

UPDATE: The first pic of Kate is up on Marla’s page. Click on the link to her blog on the right.

Update on Brad Wims

Here is a recent update that came in this morning from Lisa Hanna:

“We just received a call from Brad — his latest CT reports says the tumor has stopped growing! He is very excited, relieved, and has renewed strength, which is exactly what he needed. Thank God! Spread the news!”

That certainly is worthy of a praise – all of those prayers for the Wims family are certainly working and appreciated. To continue to check out Brad’s progress, click on the the WIms’ blog at the link on the right.

Recap of Sunday announcements

Here are the highlights from announcements yesterday in class:

Softball game is TONIGHT at Big League Dreams at 9:00. We have no more 10:00 games scheduled so the rest are pretty reasonable, including a double header on August 18.

Two showers upcoming, a baby shower for Amber Kornegeay this Sunday, August 3 at 2:30, and a bridal shower for Kelly Gibson on Sunday, August 17 at 2:30 PM. (Amber is registered at Babies R Us and Target)

For anyone interested in being part of the communion worship team, there is an information meeting at the church Sunday, August 24 at about 2:00. If you would like to volunteer to lead this time in the near future, please attend.

Also, something I overlooked, Wednesday, August 27 is our week to host the 6:00 Soul Survivor dinner at the building. More details will be available as we get closer.

Tomorrow – look for a recap of softball game number four…

New Online Directory

It’s been a long time since I last logged into the SECOC online directory. When Josh and I first placed membership I logged in quite a bit to put names to faces, figure out who was related, etc. But I hadn’t tried to log in until yesterday and I realized that they’ve completely changed the layout. I even had to contact the church office to get my log in re-assigned, but that didn’t take too long.

The new layout allows to you upload a profile picture, write some descriptive info about yourself, list your contact information, and even keep track of your contributions. It’s pretty neat. From the looks of it there are a lot of people who haven’t uploaded photos and probably don’t even know you can do that. I would encourage you to get logged in and poke around a bit. If we can spread the word about it we can get some more faces up there. That’s one thing I find the most helpful in a church the size of SE. I often hear names repeated over and over, but those of us that didn’t grow up there don’t usually know what face to put with a name. And with two services, there’s a whole crowd of members we never even see.

How to Access the Directory

From the website http://www.secoc.org   Click on “Family Life” (with any of the images in this post you can click them to see them in a larger size)

Then you’ll see this screen where you can type in your info to be sent a new log in. If you get an error message, that just means your email isn’t in the system and if you email the church office they can add you.

It really only takes a few minutes and you’re in! So I encourage you to check it out! Have a great Friday!

The house that Rick built

From one of our conversations Sunday morning, we need a couple of more volunteers to help with fix some walls and ceilings at Rick’s parents’ house. If you remember the story, they are keeping three children (AnnaLisa, Aubrey and Steven because they were taken from their home to keep them away from abuse), but they can not receive any support for them because they are not registered foster parents.

The work session is tentatively scheduled to be tomorrow night, Thursday, July 24 from 6:00 to 9:00. If you can volunteer, make a comment here or send Jared an email at Jared at jared.benge@gmail.com. We will send out details when we have them on a confirmed time and directions to the house.

Posts will be up soon about helping the Flippins move and more about Josh, Melissa and Toby Hall, who we met this past Sunday morning in class.

Don’t Forget

Two things to remind everyone of. First don’t forget that the next two weeks will be special at Southeast because there will be some special guest greeters..us. Ryan sent out an email asking for people for the next two weeks. If you have any questions contact Ryan.

Second, don’t forget to fill out your surveys for the possible third service. The leaders at Southeast really want your input as they make this decision.
